The Fighting Illini

Recent football game at Memorial Stadium
Aaaah…the 50 yard line and the Illini are on a roll at halftime! This may be a rare event for Illinois football–but still the atmosphere is great at the renovated Memorial Stadium.

The “Fightin Illini” regularly lead the Big 10 in numbers of league titles across the board. Granted that the Ohio States and Wisconsins (and now Nebraska, Rutgers, Maryland, and Penn State!) sometimes have the day in the premier sports. But in tennis, soccer, volleyball, gymnastics, etc the men and women in blue and orange bring home the trophies. The 2015 golf team is projected to be #1 in the nation.

For a complete rundown see the Fighting Illini site.

One good thing about the excellent venues for Illinois sports is that there are innexpensive tickets and good viewing. Here are some venue updates:

  • The Farm (State Farm Center–used to be The Assembly Hall) is undergoing a two year major renovation. It will be back open for the 2014-15 Fighting Illini Basketball season and then back closed until the next season.
  • Huff Hall has undergone major upgrades including a new high-tech floor for Illini Volleyball.
  • Memorial Stadium has undergone extensive upgrades including a new scoreboard last year
